FAQ
Boat booking in Mumbai — common questions
How much does it cost to book a boat at the Gateway of India?
Private sailboats start at ₹4,500 for the whole boat for a 2-hour slot — not per person. Larger sailing yachts run ₹5,000–₹12,000, motor yachts from about ₹15,000, and the big party yachts and catamarans from ₹25,000 upwards. Every price on this page is for the entire boat.
Where exactly do we board?
At Jetty No. 5, Gateway of India, Apollo Bandar, Colaba — directly across the road from the Taj Mahal Palace hotel's main entrance. A tender takes you out to your boat at anchor, about 10–15 minutes each way. Please arrive 15 minutes early with a government photo ID for every adult.
What is included in the price?
The boat, a licensed skipper and crew, the tender transfer both ways, fuel for the standard harbour route and life jackets for every guest. On the XS 63 and other small sailboats, basic decor, juice, chips and a Bluetooth speaker are included too. Catering, cakes, flowers and photographers are optional add-ons.
Which boat is best for a birthday, proposal or anniversary?
For couples and small families, the XS 63 6-seater sailboat is the most-booked choice — the decor is already included and the 5–7pm sunset slot is made for proposals. For groups of 10–20, look at Nava, Nauti by Nature, Vari 44 or Blue Whale. For 25–40 guests, the Lagoon 54, Tara catamaran, Princess 61 or Allegra.
What are the time slots?
Most boats sail in 2-hour slots: 7–9am, 9–11am, 2–4pm and a sunset slot around 4–6pm or 5–7pm. The sunset slot books out first, so reserve it early — especially on weekends and in December.
Do I need to know how to sail or swim?
No. A qualified skipper handles the boat the whole time and life jackets are carried for every guest, including children. You're welcome to take the helm for a stretch if the skipper judges conditions suitable.
Is alcohol allowed on board?
It depends on the boat and the permits in force on the day. Alcohol is not allowed on the small sailboats such as the XS 63. Ask us on WhatsApp before buying anything and we'll confirm for your specific boat.
What if the weather is bad, or during the monsoon?
If the coast guard suspends sailing or the skipper judges conditions unsafe, your booking is moved to another date at no cost. Harbour sailing generally pauses for the peak monsoon months (roughly June to August); October to May is the main season.
How do I book?
Message us on WhatsApp with your date, preferred slot, boat and number of guests. We'll confirm availability and the exact price, and a small advance secures the slot. The balance is paid before boarding.
